I Go Home: Music by Monroe Golden
Thursday March 12, 2020
7:30PM
Scholes Street Studio
375 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn, NY

“Approaching the end of a five-year residency in NYC, this concert of overtone-informed music — combining acoustic experimentation, proportional structures, and fanciful handiwork — features some of the musicians Monroe Golden has been privileged to work with during that span.

Compositions on the program explore overtone relationships in an equal-tempered context, natural harmonics of microtonally tuned fundamentals, non-systematic derivations from text, extended Just Intonation, and the juxtaposition of tuning and temperament systems with fixed media and controlled pitch drift.” – From Scholes Street Studio Past Events

Aarzu: Experimental Dance/Theatre

Aliya Kerim in collaboration with Alejandro Triana, Ammon Swinbank, Vanessa Danese, Patty Als, and Kaysar Mahmut presents Aarzu, a performance that integrates traditional Uyghur dance and Modern and Contemporary styles within a landscape unrestricted by time and identity.

Aarzu attempts to push back on the clichés of identity, time, and place to make room for movement beyond these concepts, employing the mediums of theatre movement and sound. The one-hour piece features contemporary word-fusion music played on the Oud, the Hand Drum, the Rawap, and a myriad of flute configurations.

Big Apple Bonkers
This is the story of a Colorado-Idahoan-Seattlite becoming a New Yorker. Transition is never easy, and making the leap to a city this big is frightening, joyful, romantic and down right chaotic. Big Apple Bonkers is filled with the sound of sirens, the glitter of skylines, the taste of wine and the smells of the subway. Kick back and spend an evening with me as I take you through the adventure of surviving NYU, searching for a day job and practicing in noisy parks while moving six times in less than three years.
